POSITION PURPOSE

Responsible for assisting lenders and other SBA department staff in analyzing credit and financial reports to determine risk involved in loaning money or extending credit through SBA 7(a), SBA 504, and USDA B&I loan programs.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Oversee packaging and submission of 7(a) loans under the Preferred Lender Program (PLP) and Certified Program.
  • To assist loan officers in making credit decisions on new SBA loan requests or servicing issues.
  • Evaluate and analyze credit data, cash flow, financial statements, and collateral for prospective and existing loan customers to determine SBA or USDA program eligibility.
  • Perform financial analysis and basic underwriting of loan packages for loan officers to including the following: trend, equity and ratio analysis, loan structuring, collateral analysis, guarantor analysis, and review calculations of global debt service coverage.
  • Prepare applications for guaranty packages for submission to SBA, certified development corporations (CDC), and USDA for approval.
  • When needed, perform reviews of existing SBA and USDA loans
    1. Compliance with SBA and USDA procedures and guidelines
    2. Identify documentation exceptions and evaluate current financials and cash flow
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This role has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:              
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, or finance with a minimum of 9 hours or accounting and/or 12 hours of finance or equivalent work experience.

Required Knowledge:                    
Minimum 3 years of SBA lending knowledge, including the packaging and submission of 7(a) loans under the Preferred Lender Program (PLP) and Certified programs is required.

Experience Required:              
Minimum 3 years of experience underwriting SBA loans is required.

Skills/Abilities:                                                      
Ability to work on multiple transactions simultaneously and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines. 
Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret complex financial information and identify relevant risks. 
Be proficient in public speaking and presentation skills. 
Be willing and able to educate borrowers on loan products and process. Proficiency in underwriting personal/business tax returns and financial statements. 
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, oral and written, with a focus on excellent customer service. 
Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment, while practicing sound lending judgment. 
Ability to work independently and be a self-starter, producing results in a timely manner. 
Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and database applications. 
Must be detail oriented, organized, and work efficiently under pressure.
