Software Engineer II

Developers are our customers, and we focus on understanding their requirements to enhance engineering productivity, security, and compliance. We consolidate multiple developer needs into strategic projects aligned with broader organizational objectives. By working closely with engineers, our team assists BIC engineers in addressing technical challenges and developing skills through direct collaboration. We facilitate cross-functional initiatives that support engineers in becoming more agile and deploying reliable code to production efficiently. This method has proven effective, and the team gains ongoing experience from these interactions.

As a Software Engineer II with the Microsoft Business Industry Copilot (BIC) group, you will work with developer teams to plan and execute projects. You will identify customer needs, ensure effective solutions, and be responsible for defining the project vision while prioritizing user stories in the backlog.

You will bring effective collaboration skills, a passion for working with cloud and AI technologies, and know how to create and deliver high-impact reusable software artifacts with diverse engineering teams. • Define business requirements and acceptance criteria in partnership with key stakeholders and engineering teams.
• Drive engineering initiatives across teams, including planning, status reporting, risk identification, and mitigation.
• Oversee engineering system operations, including incident management, build pipeline monitoring, troubleshooting, and integration support.
• Manage project timelines, estimates, milestones, and course corrections to ensure on-time delivery of solutions that meet business needs.
• Automate program management processes using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub, and Power BI to improve efficiency.
• Support geo-expansion efforts and participate in security and infrastructure initiatives to maintain compliance and service reliability.
• Facilitate communication and transparency through newsletters, service reviews, and stakeholder engagement across multiple teams.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, implement technology upgrades, and maintain governance for internal tools and permissions.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C++, C#, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

• 2+ years experience in big data, machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), and search technologies.

• 2+ years experience with cloud services, DevOps, and AI.

• 1+ years experience using Azure DevOps and GitHub for project tracking

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with command line, PowerShell and OSS software
• Effective analytical skills with experience in customer engagement and cross-functional collaboration.

• Ability to work independently, manage ambiguity, and adapt to new challenges.

• Demonstrated success in building relationships with technical and business stakeholders, including senior leaders.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
