Janus of Santa Cruz is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Benefits Analyst to manage and optimize our employee benefits programs. This role will serve as the primary administrator for all benefit plans, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations while supporting our mission to provide meaningful benefits to our dedicated staff. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with a collaborative, service-oriented approach that reflects our organizational values of compassion and professionalism.


This is a part-time position with the possibility of moving to full-time. Part-time employees are 403b eligible. Hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday four hours a day with room to grow.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer all employee benefit programs including health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, retirement plans (403(b)), and other voluntary benefits
  • Serve as the primary liaison between employees, insurance carriers, third-party administrators, and brokers
  • Manage annual open enrollment process, including communications, education sessions, and system updates
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, and California-specific requirements
  • Conduct benefits orientations for new hires and provide ongoing education to staff regarding available benefits
  • Process all benefit enrollments, changes, an terminations accurately and in a timely manner
  • Reconcile monthly benefit invoices and work with Finance department to ensure accurate billing and payroll deductions
  • Analyze benefits utilization data and costs to identify trends and recommend plan improvements
  • Research and stay current on benefits legislation, compliance requirements, and industry best practices
  • Coordinate leaves of absence including tracking, documentation, and compliance with applicable laws
  • Prepare reports and presentations on benefits metrics, costs, and employee participation
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding benefits coverage, claims issues, and plan features with professionalism and      empathy
  • Support HR initiatives and special projects as needed



Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three to five years of experience in benefits administration and knowledge of California laws and standards
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state benefits regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with HRIS systems and benefits administration platforms and reporting to support audits and compliance
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and data analysis
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to explain complex benefits information clearly
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism and to present information to multiple      stakeholders with clarity
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service
  • Experience with California-specific employment laws and Medi-Cal/Covered California
