BDO’s Insurance Advisory Services practice provides a wide range of actuarial services, predictive modeling, data management and machine learning tools to assist insurance companies and self-insured entities in making informed decisions across virtually all areas of business.
The Experienced Associate, Insurance Advisory utilizes his or her educational background as well as organizational skills to serve the firm's dynamic client base. The Experienced Associate assists in problem solving and fact-finding, working side-by-side with more experienced team members who provide direction, coaching and learning opportunities. The role also provides coaching to new associates on assignments. This position works on data analytics, database management, actuarial analysis, and insurance company consulting.
Job Duties:
- Performs analytical reviews of client financials, and conducts insurance industry research
- Completes quantitative and qualitative analysis of insurance reserves
- Utilizes database tools for actuarial analysis
- Assists with loading large datasets into SQL or other databases, runs queries and conducts analyses of large data sets, as case specific and appropriate
- Works with Assurance Insurance group on an ad hoc basis
- Assists in creating and preparing presentations of BDO work product to client
- Participates in and contributes to preparing reports for client highlighting work performed, issues identified, and BDO recommendations
- Executes engagements and special projects day-to-day with a high level of professionalism
- Identifies and researches new trends and tools, as well as an understanding of the data analytics marketplace
- Reviews the work of other Associates in the practice area providing feedback and contributing to work product being client ready
- Other duties as required
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, or Finance, required
- Master’s degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Applied Statistics, or Finance, preferred
Experience:
- One (1) or more years of analytical experience, required
- Experience working within a national consulting organization, preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
- Working towards the completion of the FCAS exams, preferred
Software:
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, required
- R, SQL, or Tableau proficiency, preferred
Language:

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including ability to identify and communicate issues and anomalies
- Solid organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details
- Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
- Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, and contribute to multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to participate in a team environment on engagements
- Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the firm
Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
National Range: $80,000 - $95,000
Maryland Range: $80,000 - $95,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $80,000 - $95,000
